A 35-year-old woman has drowned on the beach of El Campello, in Alicante, on the first day of opening to the recreational bathroom. This town had opened its sandbanks with the advance to Phase 2 of de-climbing, but had warned that the lifeguard service would not start until June 17, predictably coinciding with the passage to Phase 3.

The woman has shown signs of drowning and has been rescued by other bathers, some of them with sanitary knowledge, who have managed to revive her and has been transferred to the hospital, where she died shortly afterwards.

In addition, a 22-year-old girl has also been rescued on the beach in San Juan de Alicante. Around 10:45, the young woman has shown difficulties to get out of the water.

Half-gas opening

The cloudy sunrise, together with the working day and the absence of tourists, has caused the Valencian beaches to start half gas on this first day of opening.

One-way entry and exit walkways, recommendations for distance in the sand and water, obligation to wear footwear, surveillance drones, parceling or a strip on the shore for the walk of between 6 and 10 meters are some of the measures with which they have reopened.

In the province of Valencia they have already opened beaches like those of its capital, Cullera, which is finalizing an application to control capacity with a drone, and Gandia, which will distribute kits with stakes and tapes to parcel, but others such as Sagunto will start the season next day 12.

In Castellón, beaches of Castelló, Oropesa, Peñíscola or Benicàssim have reopened, with low occupancy and adapting to the required security and distance measures, although some municipalities such as Burriana or Cabanes will not open them for several days.

In Alicante , it has reopened the beaches of San Juan, El Postiguet, La Albufereta and La Almadraba, while the canine beach of Agua Amarga and the island of Tabarca will do so on the 15th, all of them with rescue and life-saving services. Bathing is also allowed in Elche, Denia and Jávea, but not in Benidorm, Santa Pola or Torrevieja or Pilar de la Horadada.
