In April, the Eskilstuna Primary School Board decided to increase the number of school days from 180 to 182 days.

"There can be consequences for goal fulfillment when they take away another two days that we need to have for development and planning," says Jannice Kloibhofer, principal at Fröslundaskolan and union representative.

The primary school board chair Mona Kanaan (S) believes that they want to give the students the best possible conditions and that more school days can be the way to go. At the same time, she is prepared to discuss further with the principals.

Want to return to 178 days

According to the School Act, the number of school days per academic year may be at least 178 days and a maximum of 190, the majority of compulsory schools in Sweden have 178 school days. Eskilstuna has had 180 since 2018. The Rectors want to return to 178.

Increasing the number of teaching days will increase the municipality's costs by SEK 350,000 for meals and 2.5 million for staff per two years.
