According to her, the main issue in the fight against COVID-19 was the timely and sufficient creation of a bed fund.

“At the beginning of March, the Italian scenario seemed to us the worst ... The worst was 10-20 thousand hospitalized per day, by analogy with Europe. We could reach a maximum of hospitalization of just over 2 thousand people a day, ”the deputy mayor quotes RIA Novosti.

As noted, a month and a half before the peak of hospitalization in Moscow, the outpatient and inpatient healthcare networks were rebuilt.

“During the development of the pandemic in Moscow, five reserve hospitals were created with a total capacity of about 10 thousand beds, 600 of which were intensive care units. Thank God they were not needed, ”she added.

As Rakova noted, since the beginning of the pandemic, the city’s resuscitation bed fund has never been involved in more than two-thirds.

“I think that at our peak there were about 20 thousand people who were in the hospital. And we have never had a shortage of beds, ”she added.

Earlier, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin stated that a “huge peak” in incidence and hospitalization due to COVID-19 was predicted in the capital, but a “terrible prognosis” did not come true.
