In cities across the United States, on Sunday, crowds of people continued to show their dissatisfaction with racism and police violence. Hundreds of protesters gathered outside the White House and at the State House in Minneapolis's twin city of St. Paul joined several thousand people to march.

- We have black sons, black brothers, black friends. We don't want them to die. We are tired of this happening, this generation does not accept it. We have grown tired of oppression, ”says 31-year-old Muna Abdi.

Curfew

Hundreds of police officers along with the National Guard had been deployed for the demonstration. The anger over the unarmed George Floyd's death Monday in Minneapolis, when a police officer with his knee pressed him until he stopped breathing, has led to destruction and rioting. Local leaders have appealed to protesters not to let the anger end in riots and looting.

In an effort to avoid new nighttime crowds, curfews have been announced in Washington DC and other major US cities, such as Los Angeles, Houston and Minneapolis. Despite this, there are reports of new confrontations between protesters and police and new looting in several places.

Protests in DC

At midnight Swedish time on Sunday, hundreds of protesters, many with face shields and some with helmets, made their way to a lower skylight fence outside the White House in Washington DC, Kravall-equipped police prevented the protesters from passing by. The White House's external security fence was about a hundred meters behind the police line, according to pictures from the Reuters news reporter.

During the afternoon and evening local time, police also fired tear gas, rubber bullets and smoke bombs to disperse protesters in Los Angeles and Boston, among others.
