Brazil's Gilbert Burns beat American Tyron Woodley, former UFC welterweight champion, on Saturday in the first sports competition in Las Vegas since the suspension of competition in March linked to the coronavirus pandemic.

The Nevada Athletic Commission had given the green light Wednesday for the holding of fights of UFC but also of boxing in camera. The UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship), the largest professional mixed martial arts (MMA) league, had already been able to organize fights without audience in May in Jacksonville, Florida.

Promoter Bob Arum (Top Rank) plans to host other mixed martial art events, including one at MGM Grand on June 9, featuring the featherweight showdown between unbeaten American Shakur Stevenson. 13 fights (7 KO), and the Puerto Rican Felix Caraballo (13 wins 1 defeat, 2 draws).

Stevenson was scheduled to defend his belt on March 14 against Colombian Miguel Marriaga in New York, but the fight was canceled due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
