US President Donald Trump has postponed the G7 summit because he believes other countries should be able to attend. The 46th edition of the summit was supposed to take place in June, but Trump now wants to move the forum to September or later.
Canada, Germany, France, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, the United States and the European Union participate in the summit. However, Trump does not consider this guest list representative of what is going on in the world. He wants to involve Australia, India, Russia and South Korea in the summit.
A physical G7 was canceled in March due to the corona outbreak. Then it was decided to continue with a video conference. Now Trump seems to want to do a physical version in September.
German Chancellor Angela Merkel canceled last week. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau refuses to support Trump's plan for a physical meeting because he sees too many health concerns. French President Emmanuel Macron does support Trump's plan, according to the White House.
Trump wants to talk to G7 about China, according to his spokesman. The president broke ties with the health organization WHO on Saturday, because China would have too much influence in the organization. Trump also announced an entry ban for some travelers of Chinese nationality.
