• Trump wants the G7 summit to be face-to-face and the other leaders respond: "If the conditions are right"

United States President Donald Trump said Saturday that he will postpone the G7 summit scheduled for June and that he will invite more countries to join the meeting.

"I don't think the G7 correctly represents what is happening in the world. It is a very obsolete group of countries ," Trump told reporters on the presidential plane. The president said he would like to invite Russia, South Korea, Australia and India to join a summit in the fall.

The meeting could be in September, before or after the UN General Assembly , Trump added.

The leaders of the G7 (Japan, Canada, the United Kingdom, France, Germany and Italy, in addition to the United States) , led by Washington this year, had planned to meet by videoconference in late June after the coronavirus crisis forced to suspend the Face-to-face meeting at Camp David , the vacation residence of American presidents, near the capital.

Last week, Trump had mentioned the possibility of holding the summit at the White House and also part of it at Camp David.
