The Falcon 9 carrier rocket lifted from the Kennedy Space Center in the US state of Florida at Pentecost. Almost 19 hours later, the space capsule docked with the space station ISS.

The launch of the Space X rocket was scheduled for Wednesday, but with only 17 minutes left to take off, the trip was canceled. Bad weather then stopped the space flight.

It is the first time in nine years that Americans are being flown to space in American-built craft. And both the rocket and the canister are built by a private company. This is the first time a private company is sending people into orbit around our planet.

The crew, Robert Behnken and Douglas Hurley, are NASA astronauts.

The final destination of the heron is the first manned trip to Mars. It is probably very far there. But the intermediate step, the Moon, will be reached in just four years according to US plans.
