According to figures from the Election Commission, Evariste Ndayishimiye won 68% of the votes of Burundians on May 20. Agathon Rwasa, the main opponent, and his party, the CNL, dispute these figures. They call them "fanciful" and have appealed to the Constitutional Court. Evariste Ndayishimiye reacted vehemently. His words were collected on radio and television on Saturday May 30 in the evening.

I think we have arrived today at a time when we should no longer speak of CNDD-FDD activists alone but understand that all Burundians, together, we are one nation. Then, constitute a sacred union to tell us: now let's go ahead! And I will tell you: it is already done, it is starting to manifest itself. For proof: is it not a single party that disputes the results? He is the only one to complain! Have you seen another party in the same case? Can this party which is isolated, defeat all these Burundians united? God has already united us. You will see that no other Burundian is going to protest. We mentioned it, there is always the idiot of the family, in each family. There must be a group trying to sabotage us. Such a group must always exist, that's what I like because our grandfather, President Nkurunziza, told me: they are necessary because they are the ones who help us to be more intelligent,  "he said. declared.
