The middle region - Uppsala, Västmanland and Gävleborg County - has had the most shootings per inhabitant. Therefore, the area has been included in the police's national force collection against gang crime: "Operation Rimfrost".

Gottsunda in Uppsala is the most vulnerable area. Police Chief Daniel Larsson takes SVT's team to the place where he works.

- It's more or less an open drug scene. There are drug crimes and also various types of violent crimes, he says.

"We were waiting for the next gang murder"

With reinforcements in the form of police officers from other regions, the police have been able to mark 110 people moving in the gross criminal environment. In the past, it was an emergency, says Daniel Larsson.

- We were waiting for the next gang murder. I am convinced that, because of Rimfrost, we have been able to prevent at least one murder.

What are you building it on?

- We've taken weapons. We have been a nail in the eye of the criminals, been hard at work, been on them, stopped them in cars, made sure they make mistakes. We have stressed them, and stressed criminals make mistakes.

"It will take ten years of hard work"

SVT gets in touch with some who are moving in the criminal environment. They are critical of the police work - and say that people just get suspicious, and then let go again.

- Rimfrost is worthless, you will see when they are done with their final report, says one of them.

The police have not reached the target of reducing the number of fires and blasts, they are just below the same level as before. If you look at the number of fatalities, the figures are even darker. During the five months before Operation Rimfrost, 12 people were shot dead - during the five months of the operation, 25 people lost their lives.

June 15, the project is closed. Police Chief Daniel Larsson is worried that it will now be difficult to keep up the pressure against the crime.

- As the crime is now, there is no quick-fix. It will take ten years of hard work from across society if we are to get this sorted out.
