A video appeared on the network, shot from the cockpit of a Boeing 747 during a flight near a thunderstorm front. The frames show how small electric discharges "spread" on the windshield of the liner. This phenomenon is called the lights of St. Elmo. They occur at the sharp ends of highly placed objects with a large electric field in the atmosphere.
