"An unfortunate circumstance" - No prosecution following the Hofors train accident

A total of 24 people were on board the train, seven of whom were lightly injured in the accident. The driver of the truck also survived unharmed.

- The preliminary investigation has been closed and it will not proceed to a prosecution. Now that we have read through the preliminary investigation, all the hearings and other actions we have done, we feel that the negligence was not so high that it was criminal. It was an unfortunate circumstance, says police investigator Stefan Löfberg.

The preliminary investigation, which has been extensive, includes investigations from, among others, the police, the Swedish Transport Administration and other actors. Many interrogations have been held and what has finally landed in is that the driver of the truck is somehow stuck on the track.

- It is a seasoned truck driver who has been driving the same route for many years. He knows exactly what the road looks like and how it works. He got stuck on the track and made no mistake, says Stefan Löfberg.
