The Taiwan government revealed on Saturday that it has agreed to use the Geladis Sciences, a remediffer drug, as a possible treatment for the emerging coronavirus, while many countries are trying to ease the closures that have hurt their economies.

Governments are racing to get enough supplies from Remisdiver, which the US Food and Drug Administration agreed this month to use.

The California-based Gilead Sciences said it would donate about 1.5 million doses of the drug, enough to treat at least 140,000 patients.

The main epidemic control center in Taiwan said that the Taiwan Food and Drug Administration had taken into account "the fact that the efficacy and safety of REMDESVIER is backed by preliminary evidence," and that other countries have agreed to use it.

On this basis, the center said that conditions were met to agree to use the drug to treat "severe" infections.

Taiwan has succeeded in limiting the spread of the Corona virus thanks to its early monitoring and prevention, as well as its distinguished healthcare system.

Only 442 cases and seven deaths were reported, and the vast majority of the patients recovered, and only 14 cases are still being treated.

For its part, Moderna company reported on Friday that it started administering doses to patients in an intermediate stage of a study of an experimental vaccine against Corona virus, and that it intends to eventually register 600 patients in the experiment.

There are currently no approved treatments or vaccines to treat corona disease caused by the Corona virus, and experts predict that a safe and effective vaccine may need 12 to 18 months to begin its development.

Global toll

Despite these numbers, many countries still announce successively reducing their procedures and lifting the restrictions that they imposed during the past weeks to confront the epidemic.

In China, the health authorities' data showed that four new confirmed cases of the Corona virus were recorded at the end of Friday, after the previous day was free of any infection.

The National Health Commission stated on its website that all four cases were from abroad.

In America, restaurants and hairdressing salons in Los Angeles were allowed to reopen on Friday, as long as health measures are applied, and all workers in these institutions and customers alike are required to wear masks.

In restaurants, the carrying capacity should be reduced by 60%, while payment boxes will remain closed to allow for the application of social spacing, a condition that will also be applied in hairdressing salons.

Customers will be required to book in advance, and they will have to wait on the sidewalk or in their car until their place becomes vacant.

The United States recorded 1,225 additional deaths from the emerging coronavirus within 24 hours, according to Johns Hopkins University, bringing the nationwide death toll from the virus to 102,798 deaths.
