Libyan Al-Wefaq government forces said today that they have made great progress in the vicinity of the Tripoli airport and the Ramla axis area south of the capital, at a time when Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte called for the speedy appointment of a new UN envoy in Libya.

The media center of the "Barkan Rage" operation of the Al-Wefaq government said in a statement that the Mahjoub brigade "is advancing strongly in the Ramla axis and the vicinity of Tripoli airport," adding that these forces took control of two armed cars and destroyed six others.

On Friday, Al-Wefaq government forces announced that they were chasing the gunmen of retired Major General Khalifa Hifter in the vicinity of Tripoli airport, and that they had managed to control important posts, without giving any details.

Al-Wefaq forces succeeded in controlling over the past few days fighting axes and strategic camps south of Tripoli, notably the Hamza and Yarmouk camps. This progress comes a few weeks after the Al-Wefaq forces took control of all the cities of the West Coast and reached the borders with Tunisia, in addition to the strategic Al-Wattia base, all of which were under the control of Haftar's forces.

With the support of Arab and European countries, Haftar forces have been waging since April 4, 2019 a faltering attack to take control of Tripoli, the internationally recognized seat of government, killing and injuring civilians, along with extensive material damage.

Writings in Russian
In a related context, the Military Engineering Company in Al-Wefaq government published pictures of writings in the Russian language, which were found in residential sites in the Ain Zara area south of the capital, where the mercenaries of the Russian Wagner Company were deployed.

One of the writings indicates that one of those he wrote is called "Fedoslav", where he wrote a wall of his name alongside the phrase "Glory to Russia".

He also wrote other sentences in the Russian language that include the names of landmarks in the Ain Zara area, south of Tripoli, such as describing a house and locating a store and a meat store. Other Russian writings show trends and coordinates of mines laid in civilian homes and their residential neighborhoods in southern Tripoli.

In a related context, "Flight Radar", which specializes in tracking global air traffic, showed that a Russian plane took off today from the Russian Hmeimim base in Latakia in western Syria, and according to the flight path, the plane entered the Libyan airspace, while it was on its way to the base of the Emirati server in eastern Libya.

America and Russia
The US military said last Wednesday that Russian military personnel had delivered 14 MiG-29 and Su-24 aircraft to the Hafrah air base of Haftar forces in central Libya.

The Washington Post quoted a US military official as saying that the deployment of Russian military aircraft in Libya may not lead to a resolution of the conflict there, but would allow Moscow a foothold in North Africa.

The director of military intelligence at the US Army Command in Africa, General George Hadfield, added that the success of the Russian efforts would be worrying for the West, especially if Moscow used Libya to install long-range missile systems, which means turning the strategic equation between the two sides in favor of Europe, NATO and the West. Generally.

UN envoy
On the other hand, the Italian Prime Minister stressed the importance of expediting the appointment of a new UN envoy in Libya, following the resignation of former envoy Ghassan Salameh last March.

The Italian official expressed his country's concern about the continued presence of external parties in sending weapons to Libya, saying that this is an escalation that contributes to fueling the conflict, prolongs the suffering of the Libyan people, and constitutes a threat to Libya's neighbors and European security.

Conti asked, in a telephone call with the President of the Presidential Council of the Government of Accord, Fayez al-Sarraj, to return to the political track in accordance with Security Council resolutions and the outputs of the Berlin Conference.

Al-Sarraj explained that the political solution to the crisis in Libya is what his government aims "as soon as the aggression is defeated," in reference to the Haftar forces attack.
