May 30, 2020Demosisto, the pro-democracy movement in Hong Kong that activist Joshua Wong helped found, calls on the international community to follow the example of the United States and take "concrete steps to punish Beijing".

The appeal comes after Donald Trump's statements about Hong Kong's special treatment of China in response to the disputed "national security" law that Beijing imposes on the former British colony.

"We urge other international allies to be on the Hong Kong side," said Joshua Wnog. "Actions speak louder than words - he added - In addition to declarations against the national security law, it is also important to use different types of tools to put pressure on Beijing".

Nathan Law, who together with Joshua Wong founded Demosisto, acknowledged that such initiatives could also have repercussions for the inhabitants of Hong Kong, but stressed that the consequences of the implementation of the "security" law wanted by Beijing would be worse. "If we do nothing and the national security law is implemented in Hong Kong, this will be the most terrible outcome," he warned.
