The protests continued into the night of Friday to Saturday in the United States, in reaction to the death of George Floyd. Europe 1 traveled to Minneapolis, the epicenter of the riots, where protesters justify the use of violence and are determined to demand justice. "We can't kill them like dogs!" Explains one of them.

REPORTAGE

A barricade of flames blocks the entire avenue: it is two o'clock in the morning on Saturday, and Minneapolis is still burning. After the protests that turned into riots that started a few hours earlier, the shadows of the demonstrators continue to dance in front of the blaze. The source of their anger: the death of George Floyd, an African American in his forties killed after Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin knelt on his neck for at least seven minutes, while he was handcuffed and laid face down on the ground.

"We cannot be killed like dogs"

The video of this act, which has gone viral, has revived the racial wounds of the United States. The police officer was "detained" by the United States criminal police on Friday, and subsequently charged with manslaughter. But in the streets, the protesters continued to shout their anger.

Near the brazier, some went up to the building which overlooks the avenue, breaking and throwing the furniture through the windows to fuel the fire. Others loot stores. "When America loses money, this is where you get your attention," said Charles, one of the demonstrators, at the microphone of Europe 1. "The Americans are more concerned with material things. that of a human life ", denounces the young African-American. "We cannot be killed like dogs!".
