Overcrowded, Afghan prisons release female detainees to limit risk of Covid-19 contamination. Liberation committees process 200 cases daily to choose who to release: "Violence against women and security crimes do not benefit from an amnesty or a remission of sentence. On the other hand, moral crimes and abandonment of home are forgiven ", explains one of the members of one of these committees. Some imprisoned women had fled their husband because they were beaten. Now free but rejected by their families, they have to face the challenge of reintegration.
