These traders returned from the weekly market in the city of Titao. This market is held every Friday. They were on their way to Sollé, their place of origin, not far from the Malian border, when they were attacked.

According to our information, the convoy consisted of six trucks on board of which there were passengers and goods. According to some sources, the escort was provided by members of a self-defense group called kogl weogo. It was around 5:00 p.m. that the convoy was ambushed by a group of armed men.

They fired bursts on trucks  " , explains our interlocutor. Among the victims were three women and a girl. They burned two trucks and left with others,  " continues our source.

According to the government spokesman, some passengers are still missing but "  military reinforcements have been deployed and sweeps are underway,  " he said.

It is not the first time that civilians have been targeted by armed groups in this region of the country. Last January, at least nine people were killed on the same axis, following the attack on a convoy of vehicles carrying traders.
