May 29, 2020Twitter returns to report a post by Donald Trump. The social network marked a post by the President of the United States partially obscuring it because it was considered contrary to the rules of use of the social network. The tweet, however, has not been completely obscured "as it could be of public interest". The tweet that threatens to ignite a new front between social networks and the White House is the one in which Trump, referring to the riots in Minneapolis, wrote: "When the looting begins, we also start shooting." According to social rules, the phrase is an incitement to violence.

I can't stand back & watch this happen to a great American City, Minneapolis. A total lack of leadership. Either the very weak Radical Left Mayor, Jacob Frey, get his act together and bring the City under control, or I will send in the National Guard & get the job done right .....

According to Twitter, Trump's post violated the rules "on exalting violence". But the decision not to obscure it is due to the same rules of social media. In fact, the rules of use read that Twitter, while adopting the principle of removing content that enhances violence, recognizes that "it can sometimes be in the public interest to allow people to view tweets that would otherwise be deleted. We consider the content of public interest if it directly contributes to the understanding or discussion of a matter of public interest. " At the moment, the social network limits the exceptions to "government representatives or elected by citizens, given the considerable public interest in knowing and discussing their actions and statements".
