The Trump-Twitter conflict is escalating. On Tuesday, two of the president's posts were flagged on the platform with a call for followers to "check the truthfulness" of the statements contained in the posts.

Trump reacted strongly to the markings and went out, writing that social media platforms "silence conservative voices" and restrict freedom of expression. Two days later, another of his posts was flagged. Then there was a tweet about the protests in Minneapolis that were hidden and marked as "glorification of violence" by Twitter.

Now, the president should have signed a presidential order that says social media platforms should no longer have any protection against legal penalties.

Will this have any implications for freedom of expression? And what does this mean for Donald Trump?

"This is the kind of conflict he loves, and his followers love," says Erik Åsard, professor of North American Studies.
