The salaries of Peruvian President Martin Vizcara, his ministers and senior officials will be reduced to help relatives of health workers who died of Covid-19, according to a decree issued yesterday.

The three-month reduction will be 15% for salaries starting from 20,000 sul ($ 5,820) and 10% for salaries starting from 15,000 sul ($ 4,362).

Peru recorded more than 135,000 cases of "Covid-19" and 3,983 deaths, making it the second country in Latin America with the largest number of cases of coronavirus after Brazil. Unlike Brazil, Peru has responded strongly to Covid-19, but the restrictions have not prevented the virus from spreading among poor people living in crowded areas who are still forced to go out to earn a living.
