As deconfinement continues, many workers will have to resume public transportation. This influx of travelers worries the authorities, who fear that they cannot enforce health regulations. The president of the Ile-de-France mobilities transport supply commission, Grégoire de Lasteyrie, pleaded Friday on Europe 1 for a relaxation.

INTERVIEW

While gatherings are always limited to ten people outside, there is now the question of social distancing in public transport. Traffic is increasing but the rules in force are too restrictive to envisage a resumption of attendance. At the microphone of Europe 1 Friday, the president of the Ile-de-France Mobilities Transport Supply Commission (COT), Grégoire de Lasteyrie, called for a relaxation of the rule of one square meter per passenger: "If the 'Scientific authority agrees, we think we can be two people per square meter. 100% of the offer but only 20% of the attendance

According to the president of this authority managing public transport in the region, supply has almost returned to its normal level. "We are 100% for RATP and 80% for SNCF". The number of travelers is also gradually increasing, reaching 20% of usual traffic. But with only one traveler in five, transport has already reached its maximum level of reception "in good conditions".

In Ile-de-France, the health rules are very strict: wearing a mask is compulsory, as is the distance of one meter between travelers. In addition, to get on the trains during rush hour, an employer certificate is required. With more and more people having to take the metro or the train, these measures mean that reception capacities are already saturated.

"What we want, if the Scientific Council thinks that social distancing in transport can be lifted, as is the case in other countries, is that we can partially remove this social distancing" , says Grégoire de Lasteyrie. In the event that the Scientific Council does not accede to this request, "We [would ask] the State to maintain the means of filtering with the police at the various stations", he adds.
