Two detainees from the Villeneuve-lès-Maguelone (Hérault) remand center are suspected of having managed a national prostitution network from their cells, learned 20 Minutes from the police officers of the SRPJ of Montpellier, in charge of the investigation.

The police identified the two suspects after an investigation that lasted several months. One of them, 30 years old, on remand for rape, is suspected of having recruited women on specialized dating sites to incite them into prostitution, by promising them clients, accommodation and protection. In exchange, the victims had to return 50% of their income to the suspects.

A dozen women identified

Once recruited, these women were put in contact with another detainee, about fifty years old, already imprisoned for pimping, whose cell was located near that of the first suspect, note the SRPJ police of Montpellier. All the negotiations were carried out by telephone from the prison.

A dozen women, for the moment, have been identified, almost everywhere in France. But investigations are continuing, and other victims could be found.

A 45-year-old woman, close to one of the suspects, was also arrested. She is suspected of having been responsible for recovering the money from prostitutes. Finally, another man, aged 45, who lives in Drôme, is suspected of having been responsible for finding accommodation. He was also arrested by the police.
