"I don't think the time has come": Prime Minister Édouard Philippe closed the door on Thursday after the resumption of professional sports championships in France, interrupted by the coronavirus, while elsewhere in Europe, the authorities are preparing restarting football.

"I do not think the time has come (to resume the season), I hope it will come soon, and that the start of next season can be effected under normal conditions," said the head of government. , by presenting the second stage of the deconfinement plan.

"It is not for me to comment on decisions of leagues and federations. The championships, for two and a half months were interrupted for excellent reasons," he also said.

The decision to stop the competition, which he himself defended before the deputies on April 28, is notably contested by the Lyon football club. Its president Jean-Michel Aulas is campaigning to restart Ligue 1, as did Germany with its Championship.

England and Spain will also follow the example of the Bundesliga in June.

Edouard Philippe also mentioned the possibility of resuming training on June 2 for professionals, within the framework of a "strict" medical protocol. An announcement that confirms the plans of the L1 clubs, which hope to return to the fields in June and start the 2020-21 season in August.
