Sala silver mine will be closed at least until the end of the year. This is to ensure the company's long-term survival. With the corona, the board of the mining company assesses that it is not possible to conduct the tourism activities that one wishes.

- The Board makes the assessment that even if the restrictions on social distancing would be eased, our core business with mining trips and lots of people down the elevator could be carried out, says Jennie Hesslöw, CEO of Sala Silver Mine.

Staff are notified

Almost the entire personnel force is now notified of dismissal. Twelve people will be laid off, only one service that will take care of the safety of the mining area will remain. The hope is that the people who currently work at the mine can be reinstated when or if the mine reopens.

- My hope is that we will open next year and then I would like to encourage all employees to go back here, says Jennie Hesslöw.
