The economist Alberto Alesina, professor at Harvard University and signed by the "Corriere della Sera", died of a heart attack while hiking in the United States. Alesina, 63, had headed the economic department at Harvard from 2003 to 2006.

Born in Broni, in the province of Pavia, in April 1957, Alesina - remembers the "Corriere" website - graduated from Bocconi University in 1981 and then obtained his PhD in economics (PhD) in 1986. Harvard, where he remained building the whole career. Alesina, who did not like the euro, is considered one of the leading economic policy experts.

In Italy he was a visiting professor at Bocconi University and together with Francesco Giavazzi, a professor at Bocconi whom he considered his "best friend", he used to sign the Corriere della Sera editorials.
