The Premier League announced on Saturday two new Covid-19 positive cases, in two different clubs, out of 996 people tested in the past three days, while a resumption of the championship is expected in June.

"Players or managers who test positive will now isolate themselves for a period of seven days," the Premier League (EPL) said in a statement.

Six people had tested positive during previous examinations conducted on May 17 and 18 on 748 people, said the body, which does not intend to specify the identities or clubs of positive people.

Premier League boss Richard Masters said on Friday that he was "as confident as you can be" about a resumption of the English football championship in June, despite the persistent threat from the coronavirus.

However, he did not specify a date. The Premier League initially hoped, in its "Project Restart" project, to resume matches from June 12, then the date of June 19 was mentioned.
