The covid-19 will have put a little more distance between Paris and London. While the United Kingdom announced Friday to impose a fortnight on travelers arriving from abroad, France regrets ... and replies. "France stands ready to put in place a reciprocity measure as soon as the system will actually come into force on the British side," we reacted at Place Beauvau.

While the two countries are linked by Eurostar, the round trips will be complicated by these fortnight measures imposed on both sides of the Channel Tunnel. "Travelers from the United Kingdom, whatever their nationality, will be invited to complete a fortnight when the British fortnight measure, announced this evening, will actually come into force," details the joint statement from the Home Office, Europe and Foreign Affairs and Health.

Fortnight volunteer

France had already announced on May 14 that it intended to apply to travelers coming from Spain quarantine measures, in reciprocity to those decided by Madrid and targeting any person coming from abroad.

The interministerial statement said Friday evening that effectively "travelers arriving by air only from Spain will be invited from Monday, to carry out a voluntary quarantine". "This applies to travelers from Spain, France and any nationality," he added.

A "voluntary fourteen" will also be offered to French or permanent residents in France from outside the European area at the home of their choice or in a suitable accommodation structure, according to the same press release.

Excluded from these "fortnightly volunteers", unless they show symptoms, are people in transit, cross-border workers, crew members, people carrying out international transport of goods, drivers and team members of coaches and trains, crews of merchant and fishing vessels. But also the health professions contributing to the fight against the Covid-19, the personnel in diplomatic missions and international organization having their seat in France, the security forces of return of mission, the people justifying a compelling family motive.

Mandatory travel certificate

Regardless of their origin, all travelers must have the derogatory international travel certificate and a sworn statement attesting that they do not have symptoms of Covid-19 infection.

For travelers from outside the European area (all countries of the world except the member states of the European Union, United Kingdom, Andorra, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Monaco, Norway, San Marino, Switzerland and Vatican), "the principle that remains in place today and until further notice is the closing of borders and therefore the ban on entry", it is specified.
