May 23, 2020 This year for reasons due to the coronavirus emergency, the day of legality and that of the memory of the Capaci massacre coincide.

"Today is the Day of Legality 'dedicated to two magistrates symbol of the fight against the mafia, Giovanni Falcone and Paolo Borsellino. The mafia ferocity that has turned off their lives has affected millions of Italians in the heart. Falcone and Borsellino had loaded on their shoulders the the weight of an enormous battle. They did so with an unshakeable faith in justice. Celebrating their memory must therefore be an opportunity to remember that winning the mafias means above all defending our society ".

This was stated by the  President of the Senate, Maria Elisabetta Alberti Casellati, in a video message on the occasion of the anniversary of the Capaci massacre and the day of Legality.

"The mafia takes the spaces that the state forgets. Today, with the economic emergency underway, with families, businesses and citizens on their knees, the risk is that the mafias are ready to act as banks for businesses and as an employment office. for those who lose their jobs . This cannot happen.

"The state is a state. Make citizens feel that there is, that supports them, that helps them and that legality is the only right way to ensure a truly free life for everyone; free from oppression, free from fear. If Palermo calls Italy, Italy is there, "concluded Casellati.

Even the President of the Chamber, Roberto Fico , intervened with a message on this day dedicated to the fight against the mafia with the commemoration of the Capaci massacre. This year because of the pandemic there was the usual initiative of the Ship of Legality from Civitavecchia to Palermo, but Fico remembered that of last year when he welcomed the arrival of the ship loaded with school children in Palermo.

"Welcoming the boys there last year at the port at the arrival of the ship of the Legalita 'are unforgettable emotions and really strong because the future generation arrives that will have to be the even better generation of the previous one and will have to continue "in the fight against the mafia " hoping that this phenomenon, as all human phenomena, sooner or later may, as Falcone said, find an end. That moment in Palermo, as well as the march, are moments so strong that I can't wait to be still there live in the square marching with the beauty of the white sheets with messages of legality displayed outside the balconies.

As a country, we must be aware of our history to achieve the goal of defeating organized crime at all levels. "

Fico also recalled how much what happened in Capaci influenced his training" He made a huge impact, it was a day full of sadness and emotions, of anger and I appreciated and loved that country that has been able to get up, with dignity, with strength. A Sicily that wanted to change and so all the young people who started a march that continues today and I feel that way, in that part of Italy that has contributed to my training and I also believe in being today President of the Chamber ".
