Operation "Berkan Al-Fathi", affiliated with the National Accord government in Libya, announced the advance of its forces with the Salah al-Din axes and the Hadaba project, south of Tripoli, and stormed the positions of the forces of retired Major General Khalifa Hifter in these axes.

The Al-Jazeera correspondent quoted military sources as saying on Friday that the Al-Wefaq forces had made progress in the Salah al-Din axis, and had taken control of Al-Sharif Island, passport and financial headquarters, customs and Al-Takbali camp.

The source added that Al-Wefaq forces also extended their control over the Al-Suehli petrol station in the Ain Zara axis, south of Tripoli, and the dental college in Salah Al-Din area. The source confirmed that the resistance of Haftar's forces is concentrated in the main road linking Salah El-Din and the Yarmouk camp.

Meanwhile, a local Libyan TV released what he said was a picture of a Russian mercenary after his death during the fighting in Salah al-Din, near Tripoli.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the Government of National Accord issued a statement saying that an investigation is underway in this video, and that it will prepare, after the investigation, a file regarding the body for transmission to the UN Security Council as an additional document on mercenaries who are fighting with Haftar forces in the Salah al-Din Front south of Tripoli.

Mines
In the same context, Operation "Anger Volcano" announced that the Al-Wefaq government forces had found a Russian anti-personnel landmine.

Muhammad al-Qalaw, the commander of the Yarmouk axis (south of Tripoli) in the Al-Wefaq forces, said that Haftar's forces laid mines in the locations that the Al-Wefaq forces had recovered in the Salah al-Din axis.

He explained that the Salah al-Din axis will be combed within days, and it is one of the axes in which Haftar forces have penetrated the past months, and mercenaries from the Wagner Russian company have concentrated on them.

Reinforcements around Tarhuna
In the city of Tarhuna, southeast of Tripoli, Al-Wefaq forces tightened the noose on the city, by surrounding it from more than one axis, and supporting these axes with medium and heavy forces, mechanisms and weapons, in preparation for clashes with Haftar's forces.

A spokesman for the Al-Wefaq forces called on civilians in these areas to stay away from and exit from Haftar forces.

Earlier, the Al-Wefaq government forces claimed control of the city of Al-Asaba, south of Gharyan. A source from Al-Wefaq forces confirmed to Al-Jazeera correspondent that the forces launched an attack from several axes towards the city, without significant resistance from Haftar's forces.

Since April 4, 2019, Haftar's forces have launched a failed attack to take control of Tripoli, the seat of government, in which residential neighborhoods and civilian sites have been targeted, resulting in civilian deaths and injuries, as well as extensive material damage.

Years of conflict have wreaked havoc in most parts of Libya, and Haftar al-Rami's attack to control Tripoli has seen an often intense bombardment of residential areas in the capital for months.

Turkish support has helped the National Accord government to wrest an important air base near Tripoli recently, control towns in the west, and destroy several Russian air defense systems that the UAE provided to Haftar's forces.

Pompeo calls al-Sarraj
politically, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo telephoned President of the Presidential Council of the Libyan Accord Government, Fayez al-Sarraj, in which he made it clear that Washington does not see a military solution to the Libyan crisis.

Pompeo said the only solution is to return to the political track and abide by the results of the Berlin conference, and he expressed Washington's eagerness to achieve stability in Libya.

For his part, Al-Sarraj expressed his appreciation for the American position on supporting efforts to achieve security and stability in Libya, but he said that his government is fighting a war imposed on it and that it is repelling an attack that has led to the displacement of hundreds of thousands of people, and left dead and destroyed infrastructure and residential areas.
