Uppland's local traffic makes many millions of losses when fewer people both travel and pay for their journeys. In order to solve the problem, UL has looked at several different solutions.

- Ticket machines at the back doors have not been a solution. It can be crowded and not sure it will have any effect. Also with more ticket controllers. It would be too expensive, says Helena Klange.

Protective glass may soon be in place

The issue of safety glasses for bus drivers has been at the top of the wallpaper lately. The question is now with the Swedish Work Environment Authority, which is to say its own. According to UL, the solution may be in place already in Uppsala's buses next week.

- The solution has gone through the inspection and I have been told that we will get answers from the Swedish Work Environment Authority on Monday. Then setting up the covers can be quite quick.

"Drivers should feel safe"

UL believes that the solution can bring with it several improvements.

- The hope is that the drivers will feel safe in terms of the spread of infection, but also for the travelers. It can be better flow when you step on. The drivers can also see how many people get on board the bus because we have to keep a distance, Helena Klange, UL press officer.

The decision of the Swedish Work Environment Authority is now awaited by the Swedish Trade Union Confederation.

- Old Uppsala bus and municipal strive for the same goal, then we have different solutions. It has become a complex issue. We at municipal level must also follow the union's attitude at central level. We have to wait and see, says Jafar Sarehkhani, safety representative Municipal and bus driver.
