As deaths from the emerging coronavirus in the United States approach the 100,000 mark, China has declared victory entirely, and Tunisia has set a date to reopen mosques, cafes and hotels.

According to the latest figures, the new Corona virus has infected 5 million and 49 thousand people so far, about 330 thousand of them have died, while about one million and 900 thousand have recovered.

The United States remains the country worst affected by the number of deaths and injuries, with more than 95,000 deaths out of a million, 562,714 injuries.

Meanwhile, Reuters news agency said the United States had secured a third of the first billion expected doses of a possible vaccine being used by the British company AstraZeneca.

In the midst of a feverish international race to reach an anti-virus vaccine, the US Department of Health and Human Services decided to provide $ 1.2 billion to the British company, to accelerate its efforts to produce the vaccine, to include three hundred million doses for the United States.

For its part, Brazil set a record in daily deaths, reaching 1188 during the last twenty-four hours.
The Ministry of Health stated that the total number of deaths in the country exceeded 20,000 yesterday, adding that new infections amounted to more than 18,500 in one day, bringing the total number to more than 310,000.

The ministry added that the actual number was likely to be higher, noting that large-scale examination tests were not conducted.

Victory Day
The National Health Commission of China announced today, Friday, that it recorded four new cases of the Coronavirus yesterday, after it had registered two cases on Wednesday.

The committee said there were 35 new cases of the virus with no symptoms, up from 31 the previous day.

Chinese Prime Minister Li Kiqiang has announced that his country has made "major strategic achievements" in its fight against the outbreak of the Corona virus, which appeared in late 2019 in the central city of Wuhan.

"We, the sons and daughters of the Chinese nation, have remained united during a very difficult period, and we have built a great wall of solidarity," he said at the opening of the National People's Congress.

After the country closed in late January to contain the epidemic, Beijing has been able to dramatically reduce the number of Coronavirus infections that have decreased in recent weeks, with the country registering a few new cases daily.

"We have achieved a decisive victory in the defense of Hubei and its capital, Wuhan," whose residents have been quarantined for two and a half months, he added.

Developments in Tunisia
For its part, the Tunisian authorities decided to reopen mosques and all places of worship, cafes, restaurants and hotels on the fourth of next June, after more than two months of closure due to the emerging Corona virus.

The decision was announced by the ministers of major projects, interior and religious affairs during a joint press conference, but they made it clear that this date could be changed if the virus re-circulated in Tunisia.

The ministers added that all of the quarantine measures were to be lifted on June 14, calling again for compliance with hygiene, social separation and masks.

Hotels and restaurants will reopen with 50% of capacity. A health protocol is being finalized, which will include details of preventive measures in tourist institutions.

Interstate transfers are still prohibited, and security barriers will be strengthened at the end of the week on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr, during which family gatherings abound.

Schools will remain closed until September, except for the baccalaureate (high school) exam preparation classes, which will resume at the end of May, and nurseries will be reopened at the same time.
