Berlin (AP) - Finance Minister Olaf Scholz (SPD) wants to strengthen purchasing power after the Corona crisis, according to a report with a family bonus. Parents should get a one-off payment of 300 euros for each child, reports the "Spiegel" about plans from the Ministry of Finance.

The measure could cost the federal government between five and six billion euros and be part of the economic stimulus package planned for June.

In addition, innkeepers and artists should be compensated for lost income - measured by the average earnings in recent years. According to “Spiegel”, Scholz plans to make depreciation or investment grants easier for companies. The stimulus package will include up to 150 billion euros.

The Treasury initially did not comment on the report. On Thursday, Scholz announced a flat-rate support for families, employees and industries such as culture, showmen, restaurants, hotels or travel agencies in a video message. The economic stimulus package should ensure "that the incomes of the citizens are stabilized, especially those of the families who now have a particularly difficult time".

According to the NRW state government, families should receive a bonus of 600 euros per child. The child benefit should be increased once, Prime Minister Armin Laschet (CDU) and Minister of Economics Andreas Pinkwart (FDP) suggested in Düsseldorf on Friday.

Such a bonus is a quick-acting tool that boosts purchasing power and brings additional demand to retailers. The federal government must quickly submit a corresponding lecture. As a country, you are ready to supplement the funds with your own country program.
