At Frölunda square, traders have long complained about high rents. During the corona crisis, rents have become even more crucial to traders' survival.

About ten stores are currently empty on the square and on Saturday the Feskar brothers will also be forced to strike again - after 40 years in the square.

- It feels really good to have to close after forty years. It is the third generation, says partner Bertil Nilsson.

Fishmonger: "Want to stay"

He also has another fish shop in the Nordstan shopping center in central Gothenburg. There, the turnover is completely different and can withstand the corona crisis. But negotiations with the center management for Frölunda torg, Skandia Real Estate, have not gone the way.

- We have tried to get a rental that makes sense for our industry, but we have failed to do so, says Bertil Nilsson.

He thinks that Skandia Real Estate must think about how they treat dealers at Frölunda Torg.

- They should be able to meet their tenants in a different way, because we want to remain in the square, he says.

Several traders have difficulties

SVT News West has talked to several small business owners in the square, who all share the picture that there are too high rents. A dozen store areas are currently closed.

Malin Svanström has a clothing store together with her mother for ten years. The store suffered a loss of almost 70 percent during the crisis. She hopes for a rental allowance.

- Our fear is that even if we can get through this, there will be too many premises that are actually empty. And, after all, nothing is good for us, even if we remain, she says.
