The decline in the number of coronavirus patients hospitalized in intensive care continued on Friday 22 May, with 1,701 patients in serious condition in intensive care, 44 less in 24 hours, said the Directorate General of Health (DGS), which on the other hand did not give an updated assessment of the deaths of the Covid-19 in France.

The number of patients in intensive care, which reflects in particular the pressure on the hospital system, has been falling since April 9, after reaching a peak at 7,148. According to the DGS press release, 17,383 people in total were still hospitalized on Friday , 200 fewer people than Thursday.

No overall assessment during the extended Ascension weekend

For the first time since the count began on March 1, the DGS did not give its traditional daily death toll on Friday. "Santé Publique France indicates today that the data relating to mortality will be updated on Monday 25 May." A pause in the publication of data linked to the long weekend, according to Santé Publique France.

The latest report published Thursday reported at least 28,215 deaths from the new coronavirus, including 17,870 in hospitals and 10,345 in retirement homes and medico-social establishments.
