In Dagestan, security forces neutralized six militants who were planning to carry out terrorist attacks. This was reported in the press service of the National Anti-Terrorism Committee.

They explained that the security agencies that conducted operational-search activities in the Khasavyurt district received information about a group of armed bandits who were in the forest north of the village of Goksuv and, according to the information received, intended to carry out a terrorist attack.

“In an attempt to detain the criminals put up armed
resistance to law enforcement officers using
automatic weapons and grenades. The bandits were neutralized by return fire, ”the message says.

During the special operation, one special forces officer was injured. NAC also reported that weapons and ammunition were found at the scene of the collision.

The committee stated that the neutralized bandits, according to available information, were associated with the Islamic State * terrorist group.

“According to reports, the neutralized bandits were associated with the
international terrorist organization ISIS *, coordinated their actions with its emissary and planned to commit a series of terrorist crimes - attacks on law enforcement officers and religious leaders, as well as extorting money from entrepreneurs to finance terrorist activities ", - told the NAC.

The department noted that in the area of the special operation, further operational-search measures and investigative actions are being carried out.

On April 30, in Yekaterinburg, militants associated with the Islamic State were also neutralized, who were preparing, as the NAC reported, "high-profile terrorist crimes." The siloviki blocked a private one-story house on the territory of the Chkalovsky district of the city, in which three bandits took refuge. On the proposal to surrender to the authorities, they opened fire, after which they were eliminated by the special forces of the FSB of Russia.

Also in early April, a supporter of the IS was neutralized in Murmansk. The militant preparing the attack opened fire on special forces soldiers and was eliminated.

Prior to this, the FSB forces managed to prevent terrorist attacks in the Stavropol Territory. There, members of the Islamic State cell — a local resident and native of Dagestan — planned attacks on police and terrorist attacks in crowded places. One of them was detained, the second was neutralized after it put up armed resistance.

In addition, at the end of March in the Krasnodar Territory, special services detained a man born in 1993, in whose car an explosive device was found.

“A improvised explosive device was found in the detainee’s car, and correspondence exposing his criminal intentions to members of the Islamic State banned in the Russian Federation international organization, which was banned in the Russian Federation, was found in the vehicles used,” the FSB public relations center said.

In March, a militant who also planned to carry out a terrorist attack was neutralized in a suburb of Ufa. Law enforcement officials tried to stop the car in which the armed man was. Police demanded to lay down their arms, in response, the attacker opened fire. In the ensuing shootout, the perpetrator was neutralized. A gun and a makeshift bomb were found with him.

In February, President Vladimir Putin during a meeting of the board of the Ministry of Internal Affairs noted a more than two-fold reduction in the number of extremist crimes in 2019. At the same time, he pointed out that such a result was “not a reason for complacency,” and recalled that the Ministry of Internal Affairs was responsible for maintaining stability in society.

Meanwhile, the NAC said that in 2019, 41 terrorist leaders, 241 ordinary insurgents and more than 600 accomplices were detained by security forces. The first deputy head of the committee’s apparatus, Igor Kulyagin, said that between 2015 and 2019, the number of crimes decreased by nine times, and also pointed out the important role of the media in the fight against terrorism.

* “Islamic State” (IG) - the organization was recognized as terrorist by decision of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation of December 29, 2014.
