- We are really worried about how we can help the children who need that little extra help. Maybe get a bike, go to a leisure camp or get warm clothes for Christmas.

The traditional way of selling cornflowers, that children sell at stores or knock on doors with their iconic green bags, has not been feasible this year because of the corona virus.

Then the associations opened digital collections instead, where you can contribute with any sum via swish.

"But it has not produced the same results on long roads," says Ann-Christin Pettersson, chair of the May Flower Committee in Karlskrona.

That this year physical maize flowers cannot be distributed, Ann-Christin believes can have a major impact.

- The digital flower does not feel, it is nothing to show. You put the flower on your jacket maybe or bag, I think it means a lot to many.

200 children in Karlskrona receive help

The May Flower Committee in Karlskrona usually distributes money to about 200 children, who receive help before the summer holidays, Christmas holidays but also school starts.

Already, the local association can predict that the aid will not reach as many children this year. Therefore, Radio Aid collects money that Mayblomman's local associations may take part in.

- We have received SEK 80,000 from this. But it will still not go as far, if it does not happen more with the digital collection, says Ann-Christin Pettersson.

The idea is to invest extra hard for next year's campaign.

- Then it will double up, more I can not say yet. Hopefully it can be, but we do not know how this pandemic will develop.

Mayflower's digital collection is open until 31 May and can be found on their website.
