The Kings visited this morning the facilities of Mercamadrid, the largest platform for distribution and marketing of fresh food in Spain , in order to get to know their activity first hand and visit some of the fruit and fish stalls.

Don Felipe and Doña Letizia began the visit at 5.30 am, when it was still dark, accompanied by the Minister of Industry , Commerce and Tourism, Reyes Maroto, and the Mayor of Madrid , José Luis Martínez-Almeida.

Protected with a mask and gloves, the kings have been received by the Mercamadrid management team, with whom Felipe VI held a telematic meeting on March 25 to learn the response of the center in the supply of products during the state of alarm decreed by the coronavirus pandemic . Mercamadrid supplies fresh food to 12 million consumers , within a radius of 500 kilometers. It operates more than 800 companies that employ 9,000 people of about 30 different nationalities.

After an explanatory talk about how the ships are distributed, the Kings have gone inside some of them to observe first-hand the sale of fresh products , both fish, fruit and other perishable foods.

Don Felipe and Doña Letizia have stopped to chat with various workers and people who have gone to buy gender.

The visit to Mercamadrid is the second face-to-face visit that the kings have made this week, in which they have begun to recover their normal activity after two months of health crisis.
