May 21, 2020 "As you know, the preliminary hearing before the GUP at the Court of Catania will begin in October where I am called to answer for the possibility of kidnapping for events performed in the performance of my duties as Minister of the Interior". "I appeal to your institutional role, as President of the Republic and the CSM, so that I am guaranteed, as all citizens must be guaranteed, the right to a fair trial before a third and impartial judge". Matteo Salvini asks Sergio Mattarella of it.

Salvini's request to the Head of State is contained in a letter sent today to the Colle in which the League leader takes the move from an article in La Verità. "As far as we read in the newspaper article - explains Salvini recalling his institutional role at the time of the facts - it is precisely this political theme that has aroused the aversion towards me of the magistrates, protagonists of those published communications. I don't know if the various interlocutors are part of currents of the judiciary or if we have relations with the judges who will judge me, however it is undeniable that the trust towards the judiciary now wavered in the presence of news on the intentions of some important Italian magistrates, as far as emerged and reported in the article from La Verità ".

"Those phrases captured in the context of the proceedings against Palamara - he observes - clearly reveal a widespread and widely shared strategy of an offensive against me by the judiciary. All this affects the principle of separation of powers and arouses in I am concerned about the lack of serenity of judgment that would affect the outcome of the proceedings against me. I appeal to your institutional role as President of the Republic and therefore President of the CSM - Salvini concludes in his letter to Mattarella - so that I can be guaranteed , as must be guaranteed to all citizens, the right to a fair trial, before a third and impartial judge, in compliance with Article 111 of the Constitution ".
