Since the corona crisis came, several businesses have had to send home their volunteers because of infection prevention reasons. Second hand shops have therefore had to find new ways to solve the lack of volunteers.
The Red Cross in Kristianstad has applied to other target groups and recruited younger people. However, it is unclear how long the new staffing will last.
"It works well, but we will need more volunteers this summer," says Jeanette Oredsson, Head of Operations of the Red Cross.
Decreased salesIn addition, the number of gadgets submitted to the organizations has increased significantly during the pandemic.
- As sales decline, we see an increase in gifts. More volunteers are always needed, says Alireza Mobasheri, project manager at Skåne City Mission's gift reception.
Social responsibilitySome volunteers have now been given new tasks that are taken care of from home instead.
- We send submitted textiles to our 70+ volunteers. The fabrics then become fabric bags that we sell in stores, says Linda Nehlstedt, Erikshjelp's operations manager.
