Before going to Beijing to participate in the two sessions, the National People's Congress representative and well-known Kunqu performing artist Ke Jun held a live event in Nanjing titled "Removing Makeup and Singing Dramas". A "Suyan" Kunqu Opera "Night Run" caused the topic of how the heritage inherited tradition and innovation and development.
At the event site, the stage was arranged in the open nature between mountains and rivers. There was no scenery beside the wooden pavilion, only a pool of clear water passed by. On the stage, Ke Jun, who was in a long shirt, looked up to the sky. Without the costume and no powder, he raised his hand and smiled, but showed the original taste of ancient Kunqu.
"The development of art is a circle. The 'most pioneer' is ultimately to return to the 'most traditional'. Today, I am using the 'most traditional' approach to the 'most pioneer'." Ke Jun said of this ingenious performance .
In the field of Kunqu, Ke Jun's reputation has spread overseas. He is a famous Kunqu Opera performing artist in China, chairman of Jiangsu Dramatists Association, and a non-genetic inheritor of Kunqu Opera. He has won many awards such as the Chinese Plum Highest Award "Plum Blossom Award" and "Wenhua Award".
With many "titles" in his hand, Ke Jun still insists on performing in the front line, teaching himself and being brave enough to try. Kunqu was listed as a "Masterpiece of Oral and Intangible Heritage of Mankind" by UNESCO in 2001. Since then, Ke Jun has gone "farther and farther" on the road of spreading Kunqu, but has "closer and closer" in nature.
For nearly 20 years, Ke Jun has been exploring the most avant-garde stage performances in the world and called this innovative contemporary Kunqu Opera "Pioneer Kunqu Opera".
"Pioneer Kunqu is not transforming or improving Kunqu, but taking some elements from the traditional Kunqu, doing a little 'experiment' and doing some explorations different from the traditional Kunqu. It requires a new way of thinking and new methods. New innovation requires tireless input. Pioneer is to move forward, and do n’t be afraid. Of course, it is necessary to practice traditions before you are qualified to do some innovation. ”Ke Jun said.
In his view, Kunqu ’s inheritance and development must be both an "archaeological team" and an "exploration team": when sticking to traditions, you need to talk to the ancients and pay homage to the past. When facing the future, we must be able to carry the thinking, emotions, ideas and spirit of contemporary people, and explore the stage expression that belongs to the contemporary.
Generally speaking, the appearance of "pink and ink" is a routine for opera actors, but the pioneer Kunqu explored by Ke Jun made a plain appearance and "removed makeup" to sing opera. In Ke Jun's view, "the most traditional" and "the most pioneer" are not contradictory, but like Tai Chi can be intertwined, and each has its own beauty, beauty and beauty.
On the other hand, in recent years, like Kunqu Opera, many non-legacy projects have encountered an "insistence or change" in the path of inheritance, development and internationalization. Blind "rubbing hot spots" and committing to the market "variants" and other phenomena emerged endlessly. But in Ke Jun's view, this is not a long-term solution, and the charm of the non-legacy lies in the fact that the beauty of "beautiful face" cannot be abandoned.
"I think today's classics are the pioneers of the past; today's pioneers create the classics of tomorrow. Just like Kunqu, the development of traditional culture must lead to the future, but it must not abandon traditions."
