Facebook boss Mark Zuckerberg acknowledged that his social network was behind in the fight against interference during the 2016 US presidential election and said he was "confident" that he could "protect the integrity" of the next election, in an interview with the BBC Thursday.
Like Twitter, Facebook has come under heavy criticism for foiling the major disinformation campaigns of 2016, including during the American campaign.
Recognizing that Facebook was "behind" during the last electoral campaign in the United States, Mark Zuckerberg stressed that preventing electoral interference represents an "arms race" against countries such as Russia, Iran or China.
"Countries will continue to try to interfere and we will see problems of this kind but we have learned a lot since 2016 and I am rather confident that we will be able to protect the integrity of the coming election", where outgoing President Donald Trump will face Joe Biden on November 3, he said.
In the same interview, he also discussed the three axes of Facebook in the coronavirus crisis, the removal of false news, allowing people to keep in touch with their loved ones and helping small businesses.
