The World Health Organization (WHO) said on Wednesday that 106,000 new cases of newly emerging coronavirus have been recorded worldwide in the past 24 hours, the highest number of infections in a single day so far.

It expressed concern about the situation in poor countries, while rich countries continue to exit from the general isolation measures imposed by them at the height of the virus outbreak.

"We still have a long way to go with the spread of this epidemic ... We are very concerned about the high number of cases in low- and middle-income countries," WHO director Tidros Adhanom Gebresos told a news conference.

The infections are escalating and Brazil is jumping
and the number of people infected with the Corona virus has exceeded five million in the world, about two million of whom have recovered, and more than 326 thousand have died.

Brazil recorded 1,200 deaths in one day due to the virus, while the number of confirmed infections exceeded 271 thousand, jumping to the third position globally after Russia and the United States in the number of infections.

This comes amid criticism of the policy of Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro, who rejects the policy of complete closure, and Bolsonaro announced that the Ministry of Health will allow the use of the anti-malarial drug, Hydroxychloroquine, to reduce the accelerating spread of the virus.

Patients will be asked to sign a statement that includes being informed of possible side effects of the drug, including impaired heart, liver, and eye networks, and even "to death."

The guidelines that apply to the public health system leave the final decision on the use of medications for doctors and their patients.

Bolsonaro and his US counterpart Donald Trump, whom he often compares, prescribe the two drugs as a possible treatment for Covid-19, until Monday that Trump revealed that he takes hydroxychloroquine daily as a precaution, but some studies have raised doubts about the safety of these drugs and their effectiveness in fighting the virus.
