Chinese representative: China firmly supports the just cause of the Palestinian people
Xinhua News Agency, United Nations, May 20th: China ’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Zhang Jun said at the Security Council video conference on the Middle East situation and the question of Palestine on the 20th that China expressed serious concerns about plans to annex parts of the occupied Palestinian territory and firmly supported the Palestinian people ’s Just cause.
He said that the "two-state plan" is the only way out of the Palestinian issue. China urges the parties concerned to stop any unilateral actions and avoid the escalation of conflict and tension. China also opposes any country's support for unilateral actions. The Security Council should perform its duties to prevent dangerous unilateral actions, and promote Palestine and Israel to restart peace talks as soon as possible in accordance with relevant United Nations resolutions, the principle of "land for peace" and the "Arab Peace Initiative".
Zhang Jun emphasized that the question of Palestine is the root cause of turbulence in the Middle East. Independent statehood is an inalienable national right of the Palestinian people and no transaction is allowed. China firmly supports the just cause of the Palestinian people in restoring their legitimate national rights and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with full sovereignty based on the 1967 borders and with East Jerusalem as its capital. China will work with the international community to make unremitting efforts to achieve a comprehensive, just and lasting peace in the Middle East at an early date.
