May 21, 2020 Assaeroporti "welcomes" the guidelines adopted by EASA (European Aviation Safety Agency) and ECDC (European Center for Disease Prevention and Control) for the restarting of air transport. "Sharing the direction outlined at European level for the recovery of the sector", the association representing the Italian airport managers "asks the Italian government to review the obligation to distance one meter on board the aircraft, currently in force in the It is of fundamental importance - underlines Assaeroporti in a note - to align with European recommendations, to allow a recovery of connectivity based on homogeneous and sustainable rules, under penalty of excluding Italy from the context of European and international air transport ".

The key measures of the EASA Guidelines, recalls Assaeroporti, foresee: the physical distancing at the airport, optimizing the routes and the use of airport infrastructures to avoid gatherings; the need to wear the mask at the airport and on board the aircraft for passengers and crew members, as well as the provision of adequate personal protective equipment to all airport staff; the increase of cleaning and sanitizing interventions in the areas of the terminal and on board the aircraft, especially in the points of greatest contact; the separation on board where permitted by the load of the passengers, by the configuration of the cabin and by the mass and balance requirements of the aircraft, without prejudice to the need to comply with all further measures to mitigate the risk of contagion such as rigorous hand hygiene , the hygiene-respiratory protocols and the use of the mask (the members of the same family unit can in any case be seated next to each other).

"It is essential to align itself with European recommendations, to allow a resumption of connectivity based on a consistent and sustainable rules, under penalty of exclusion of Italy from the context of European and international aviation," says Assaeroporti. "The guidelines confirm that the safety of passengers and workers is the main objective of the air transport sector and suggest a flexible, non-discriminatory and coordinated approach to ensure the effectiveness of the measures and the maintenance of a level playing field on the market", said Fulvio Cavalleri, Deputy Chairman of Assaeroporti. "Only in this way, in fact - he adds - will it be possible to restore connectivity and support economic activity, without compromising the competitiveness of the sector, of the companies operating in it and of the whole country. The exclusion of Italy from European air transport moreover, it would certainly jeopardize current employment levels, which are unsustainable without a significant recovery in traffic. "
