If the canteens of Nantes schools have not been operational since deconfinement, the situation will change on June 2. Indeed, the city hall of Nantes will be able to resume a school meal adapted to health instructions and provide "cold, balanced and varied meals". And in an “objective of solidarity with families”, the canteen will be free until the end of the year. Meals distributed will not be billed until July 3. The extracurricular reception for lunch will also be offered.

"The health crisis we are going through has exacerbated social inequalities and food has become a major issue for many Nantes residents," explains Johanna Rolland, mayor of Nantes.

Free childcare

The city of Nantes is not the only one to have made this decision. Other Loire-Atlantique municipalities, such as Bouguenais, have announced free meals until the end of the year. Most often these are cold meals.

As a reminder, the city hall of Nantes also announced at the beginning of the week the establishment of an exceptional and free daycare service, Monday to Friday, for students who could not be admitted to school despite the request of parents.
