“I am against such talk, against such rash actions. I believe that this initiative should come from below ... from people living in these regions, ”Uyba said in a video message to residents on his page on the VKontakte social network.

He stressed that such a union is possible only with the consent of the inhabitants of all three regions.

“If this is some kind of functional decision-making, without the opinion of the people living in the territory, this is obviously a failed option,” the acting head of Komi added.

In this regard, Uyba called on the residents of Komi "not to succumb to the mood that this is already a resolved issue."

“This is actually a hypothesis being discussed,” he explained.

He also recalled that the status of the republic "is much higher than the status of the region or autonomous region."

Matvey Chuprov, the head of the working group from the Nenets Autonomous Okrug on the issue of combining the Nenets Autonomous Okrug and the Arkhangelsk Region, spoke about the initiative to include the Komi Republic in the new region.

On May 13, the Arkhangelsk region and the NAO signed a memorandum of intent to unite.

Acting head of the Arkhangelsk region, Alexander Tsybulsky, said that a referendum on unification with the Nenets Autonomous District is planned to be held in September, simultaneously with the election of governors of both regions.

Member of the Federation Council Valery Ryazansky in an interview with Inforeactor commented on the decision to unite the regions.
