Where there were previously 19 parking squares in close proximity to restaurants and shops on Trädgårdsgatan, a sandy beach has now been built. A project that cost Jönköping Municipality between SEK 40,000 and SEK 50,000.

- We hope that people will see this as a nice place to stay and that they want to be here, both to sit down and take it easy and to play in the sand, says Emma Svärd, operations manager at the city building office in Jönköping Municipality.

Several express dissatisfaction

Since the sandy beach came into being, many have criticized Jönköping Municipality, because the beach was built at the expense of parking lots.

Some people believe that there are too few parking spaces in Jönköping and believe that traders who have activities in the vicinity are adversely affected as motorists cannot drive. But there are also those who are positive that the summer pedestrian street in the municipality is now being expanded

The sandy beach that was located at the former parking lot will only be in place during the summer, according to Emma Svärd at the city building office.
