South Sudan's Vice President, Riek Machar, who is also a former rebel leader, was infected with the Coruna virus, according to his office the day before yesterday, also announcing the infection of his wife, Angelina Teny, who is defense minister, and a number of his aides.

Machar's office said on its Facebook page: "He made a public statement confirming his injury, and he will stick to a quarantine in his home during the next 14 days," as of yesterday.

The office explained that Machar "has no symptoms", declaring that a number of his aides and personal guards have been infected with the epidemic.
