• The Valencian Community returns to the beach

What the new normality that awaits us once the pandemic is overcome is still unknown in many respects. But if something is clear at this point is that next summer will have a certain air of dystopia. How else to imagine a beach where you have to keep your social distance ? But this is the reality for which the various administrations are already seriously preparing.

In the case of the Valencian Community, which lives on tourism and whose 70% of the coast is made up of beaches and coves, going to the beach this summer will be completely different from what has been experienced to date. The challenge of the Valencian Government is that the beaches are a "safe" environment where the possibility of contagion of the Covid-19 is limited to the maximum , in the words of the President of the Generalitat, Ximo Puig.

For this, and regardless of what the general protocol of the Institute for Spanish Tourist Quality dictates, the Generalitat will develop a mobile app that will inform citizens of the degree of occupation of the beaches . "People will have the maximum information to decide which beach to go to," Puig said on Tuesday.

This application, according to the sources consulted, will not be based on the geolocation of the bathers, so that privacy will not be violated. The objective is to detect the mobiles that have Wi-Fi activated to calculate, in real time, the level of assistance to a beach. This system may be complemented by space reservation in the sand, which will be one of the recommendations to the municipalities by the Autonomous Secretariat of Tourism.

This has been confirmed to this newspaper by sources from the department directed by Francesc Colomer, who explain that the catalog of actions to be implemented will also contemplate dividing the beaches into grids to ensure physical separation between people. Again, this will be at the discretion of the municipalities, which are those that have the competence on the organization of the beaches.

To allow social distance, Tourism proposes that the access walkways to the beaches be strengthened and, above all, that the entry and exit corridors be differentiated, so as to avoid the concentration of people at the accesses.

In this line of avoiding crowds, the Generalitat will take advantage of promoting, with a catalog of all the beaches, the most unknown and, therefore, least frequented.

Tourism will also request that beach cleaning be reinforced, as well as the daily disinfection of urban furniture . Furthermore, in the early stages of de-climbing, the use of showers is not allowed.

Remember that bathing will already be allowed from phase 2 of the de-escalation plan. Until then, the beach can only be accessed for water sports.
